Position Summary

NCW is seeking an experienced Heat Treat Engineer for a manufacturing facility in Columbus, IN. This is a hands-on, floor-focused engineering role responsible for owning and improving heat treatment processes, with a primary focus on carburizing, tempering, and induction heat treating. The Heat Treat Engineer will work closely with furnace operators, technicians, engineering, quality, and production teams to maintain stable processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure components meet required specifications.  

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and support heat treatment processes including carburizing, tempering, induction hardening, and related thermal processing operations.  
  • Troubleshoot furnace performance, atmosphere controls, temperatures, cycle times, recipes, and other critical heat-treat process parameters.  
  • Monitor and improve heat-treat processes to maintain consistent hardness, case depth, material properties, and overall product quality.  
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to furnace operators, helping troubleshoot process issues, and establishing proper operating practices.  
  • Partner with the Heat Treat Technician, engineering, quality, maintenance, and production teams to identify root causes and resolve equipment or process-related problems.  
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain heat-treat parameters and process standards while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional heat-treat engineering  
  • Strong hands-on experience with carburizing and industrial heat-treatment processes.  
  • Experience with tempering, induction heat treating/hardening, and furnace operations.  
  • Strong understanding of furnace controls, atmosphere control, temperature profiles, heat-treat cycles, and process troubleshooting.  
  • Ability to diagnose heat-treat process issues and provide technical direction to furnace operators and production personnel.  
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills within a manufacturing environment.
Employment Type & Compensation
  • Full-Time | Direct Hire position  
  • Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000 annually, based on experience  
  • Application Period: This position will remain open until filled  
Work Schedule
  • Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM – $5:00 PM | Flexible
