Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Traveling Federal Construction Superintendent to lead field execution on multiple federal construction projects across the United States. The Federal Construction Superintendent will provide on-site leadership, enforce safety and quality standards, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure project performance aligns with schedule, budget, and contractual requirements.
This role is ideal for a hands-on, highly organized leader with deep federal construction knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel frequently for project assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Execution
- Provide on-site leadership to ensure efficient, safe, and quality project execution on federal construction contracts
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of subcontractors, trades, and field personnel
- Ensure strict compliance with federal safety and quality standards, including EM 385-1-1 or other applicable federal regulations when required
- Maintain a professional and productive jobsite culture that aligns with company values and client expectations
- Interpret construction documents, specifications, and drawings for field teams
Schedule & Quality Control
- Execute and monitor project schedules to ensure milestones are met and delays are mitigated
- Conduct daily inspections, track progress, and enforce established quality standards
- Proactively identify risks and develop corrective action plans
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with contract requirements, approved submittals, and federal quality standards
Safety & Compliance
- Implement and enforce a rigorous safety program aligned with federal construction requirements
- Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and jobsite audits
- Work with subcontractors to ensure their activities meet safety and compliance expectations
Communication & Coordination
- Provide clear and regular communication with project leadership, project managers, subcontractors, and inspectors
- Document daily activities, field reports, meetings, and inspections
- Support coordination with owners, architects, engineers, and government representatives
Project Documentation & Closeout
- Maintain thorough records of daily logs, RFIs, change orders, submittals, and schedules
- Coordinate project closeout activities including punch lists, final inspections, and turnover documentation
- Ensure all project records are complete, accurate, and submitted per contract requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of superintendent or field supervision experience on federal construction projects
- In-depth knowledge of federal construction requirements, contract administration, jobsite safety, and quality control
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple trades and field teams independently
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and site logistics
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness and ability to travel nationwide for extended project assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with federal contracting agencies such as USACE, GSA, VA, or DoD
- EM 385-1-1 safety compliance experience
- Prior experience with multiple delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CM/GC, etc.)
- Experience with construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, BIM 360, etc.)
Salary & Compensation
Base Salary Range: $115,000 – $145,000 annually (DOE)
- Final compensation is dependent on experience, project complexity, travel expectations, and federal contracting expertise
- Per diem provided for travel assignments in accordance with company policy and project location requirements
