PURCHASING and MATERIALS MANAGER
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supplier Management
- Negotiate purchase prices for vendor supplied materials and services.
- Evaluate purchased items to obtain the highest quality materials at the lowest possible cost.
- Develop and maintain pricing benchmarks.
- Follow up and resolve pricing discrepancies on vendor invoices
- Identify new foreign and domestic suppliers that meet our production requirements and operational improvement goals.
- Develop a vendor rating and evaluation system.
- Develop materials forecasts for our vendors.
- Communicate supplier delivery updates to manufacturing.
- Expedite deliveries as needed.
- Initiate immediate replacement of and credit for rejected raw material. Lean Manufacturing
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Operational Improvement initiatives.
- Manage inventory levels in support of shorter lead times and inventory reduction strategies.
- Develop new supplier programs in support of operational improvement goals. General Purchasing
- Review and negotiate inbound freight and transportation rates and discounts.
- Maintain purchase orders in the computerized system
- Maintain sequential purchase order log
- Ensure all purchase orders copies are distributed internally and externally.
- Review and approve all acknowledgements from vendors regarding our purchase orders.
- Updated purchase orders are printed and footnoted with reason for change.
- Follow up and resolve pricing and delivery discrepancies.
- Understand and comply with ISO and CE regulations as they relate to purchasing.
- Ensure vendor qualification statements are complete and on file (ISO)
- Ensure NAFTA certificates are on file for applicable vendors (Export Regs) Facilities and Reporting
- Coordinate Buildings and Grounds facilities vendors
- Routinely inspect facility and grounds and identify maintenance and repair needs as they occur.
- Initiate PO’s and instructions to outside vendors or maintenance employees to address maintenance and repair needs.
- Maintain working technical knowledge of goods and services to be purchased.
- Stay abreast of current market conditions affecting our business.
- Develop monthly report for distribution to General Manager and President.
- Develop management reports as needed in support of operational improvement and Lean Manufacturing goals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Certification and Bachelors level business degree preferred.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
