Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Layout Fabricator to support structural steel fabrication by interpreting blueprints, identifying weld requirements, preparing welding equipment, and producing welded components to established specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of welding fundamentals, welding symbols, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and applicable AWS standards. Candidates must prioritize safety, maintain quality workmanship, and demonstrate reliable attendance and flexibility to support production needs.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols to determine layout and welding requirements.
- Prepare, set up, and adjust welding machines to meet specified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks in accordance with approved procedures, AWS standards, and required tolerances.
- Operate overhead cranes to move steel materials safely.
- Identify and correct welding discontinuities identified during quality inspections.
- Maintain welding equipment and perform routine upkeep of tools and the work area.
- Communicate supply and consumable needs to the area team lead.
- Follow all required PPE, workplace safety, and material handling procedures.
- Maintain an organized work area and complete assignments efficiently.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the area team lead.
Requirements:
- Three to five years of relevant layout, fabrication, or welding experience preferred.
- Familiarity with welding equipment and a solid understanding of welding fundamentals.
- Ability to qualify and perform welding procedures in accordance with company WPS requirements.
- Ability to adjust welding machine settings within specified WPS parameters.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code requirements, including applicable limits and tolerances.
- Ability to prepare and weld multiple joint types to applicable AWS standards.
- Strong blueprint-reading skills and a clear understanding of weld symbols.
- Excellent attendance is mandatory; must arrive on time and be ready to work at the start of each shift.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Ability to stand throughout the shift and work 10 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, with Friday shifts of approximately 6 hours when scheduled.
- Willingness to accept coaching, follow direction, and perform additional tasks as assigned by the area team lead.
- Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and production requirements.
- PPE Required: Welding hood, steel toes
Schedule:
- 5:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday-Thursday and 5:00 am – 2:30 pm, Friday
Compensation:
- $21.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on experience
