Diesel Mechanic – South Bend, IN
Pay: $25–$30 per hour DOE
Schedule: 1st, Monday–Friday
Overview:
NCW is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join a reputable, family-owned transportation company based in South Bend. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of tractors and trailers to ensure safe and reliable operation. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic ability, mechanical expertise, and pride in quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
NCW is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join a reputable, family-owned transportation company based in South Bend. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of tractors and trailers to ensure safe and reliable operation. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic ability, mechanical expertise, and pride in quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, air systems, brakes, and suspensions
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on tractors and trailers
- Conduct DOT inspections and document all maintenance and repair activities
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to safety standards
- Collaborate with dispatch and drivers to coordinate service needs and minimize downtime
- Assist in ordering parts and maintaining inventory as needed
Key Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on diesel mechanic or heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge of air brake systems, hydraulics, and engine diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, and work orders
- CDL preferred but not required
- Experience with Cummins, Detroit, or CAT engines a plus
- Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently
