Controls Engineer – Cedar Rapids, IA
As a Control Systems Engineer you will be working with several of our customers designing and developing controls systems for different environments from off highway to industrial. Control Systems Engineer responsibilities will include:
- Provides application/ control systems design and development for systems of varied complexity.
- Develops and evaluates alternative system solutions that meet stated requirements.
- Design or modify electrical control enclosures and programs.
- Develops proficiency in several programming languages and control device networks for PLCs and PCs or DCS systems.
- Interacts with customers to gain an understanding of their business environment. Defines scope, plans and deliverables for assigned work focused strongly on the customer.
- Work successfully in a matrix structure; focused strongly on customer service and personnel growth
Job Requirements and Preferred Experiences
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years work experience in industrial controls and system integration with a strong focus on software design, programming, and control enclosure design.
- Has the ability to manage multiple tasks, have excellent attention to detail, and be willing and able to learn new technologies quickly.
- Has solid verbal and written communication skills. Works well as an individual and in a team and can successfully interact/ work with customers at multiple levels of responsibility in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of NEC electric code NFPA 70 and 70E and safety systems.
- Experience with hydraulic circuits and hydraulic motion control, UL508A, and Rockwell SLC500 up to ControlLogix PLC Programming.
- Networking knowledge including any of the following- EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, Modbus, and variations of CAN.
- Practice with CoDeSys, Mobile PLC controllers, LabVIEW, PID loops & motion control tuning, along with HMI programming.
- Experience with Servo design, development and troubleshooting experience of advanced motion control systems including multi axis, database configuration and interfacing, and data acquisition experience.
- Knowledge in schematic design and panel layouts using AutoCAD or similar and Device Configuration such as VFD’s, PMW drivers, DC motor controls.
- Flexible schedules when and where possible, to minimize business interruption during planned or unplanned system modifications.
- Willingness to travel for field support. Typically, less than 10%.
