Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller for a stable and well-established chemical manufacturing organization to support their Controller and lead key cost accounting and inventory functions.
This is a newly created position driven by increased demand. The accounting team is high-performing with a streamlined month-end close (1–2 days), and this role will play a critical part in supporting complex inventory and cost structures within a process manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cost accounting activities including standard costing, variance analysis, and overhead allocation
- Manage inventory processes including cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliations
- Analyze manufacturing costs, material usage, and margins to support operational decision-making
- Support month-end and year-end close, including COGS and financial reporting
- Maintain and improve ERP system accuracy related to inventory, costing, and production data
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Support internal and external audits and ensure adherence to internal controls
- Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and operations
- Serve as a backup to the Controller and support broader accounting functions as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 8+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong cost accounting and inventory experience required (non-negotiable)
- Experience with standard costing, BOMs, and variance analysis
- Advanced Excel skills required
- ERP system experience required
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
- Proven ability to work independently and operate in a hands-on environment
