Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Overhead Crane Operator to support shipping, receiving, and material handling operations in a fast-paced metals distribution environment. This role is responsible for safely moving, loading, unloading, and staging materials using overhead cranes and forklifts while ensuring customer specifications, inventory accuracy, and quality standards are met. The ideal candidate will have experience operating overhead cranes in an industrial setting, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to safely move, stage, load, and unload metal products and materials.
  • Load outbound customer shipments and unload inbound inventory shipments while ensuring accuracy and product integrity.
  • Secure outbound loads through proper chaining, tarping, and load securement procedures.
  • Verify incoming and outgoing materials against shipping documents and complete all required paperwork accurately.
  • Identify products using color coding systems, tags, labels, and customer specifications.
  • Read and interpret measuring devices and product dimensions to ensure order accuracy.
  • Inspect materials for quality, damage, and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Maintain organized inventory storage areas and support efficient warehouse operations.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to crane operation, forklift operation, material handling, and load securement.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, warehouse personnel, and shipping staff regarding inventory and shipment status.
  • Assist with training and mentoring team members as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures including PPE requirements to perform the job safely
Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating overhead cranes in an industrial, manufacturing, metals, or distribution environment.  
  • Valid overhead crane operator certification required.  
  • Forklift operating experience required.  
  • Strong understanding of material handling practices, shipping and receiving processes, and inventory control procedures.  
  • Ability to understand product specifications, color coding systems, and customer requirements.  
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting measuring devices and dimensional information.  
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to precision, quality, and safety.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Reliable work history with strong attendance and dependability.  
  • Strong work ethics and a positive attitude.  
  • Willingness to learn new skills, cross-train, and assist in training others.  
  • Ability to lift weight up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.  
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.  
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all company safety policies and procedures.
Employment Type & Compensation
  • This is a Full-Time | Temp-to-Hire position
  • Pay rate is $18.00 per hour
  • Application Window: Open until filled  
Work Schedule
  • 2nd Shift | Monday – Friday | 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM | OT Available
