Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Traveling Quality Control (QC) Manager to support federal construction projects nationwide. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the Contractor Quality Control (CQC) program to ensure all work is performed in full compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and applicable federal standards.
The QC Manager provides focused oversight on the quality of physical work in the field, supporting the Project Manager and Superintendent while maintaining independence to prevent conflicts between quality, safety, schedule, and productivity objectives.
Top Responsibilities
- Oversee overall project quality control, including materials, deliveries, installations, and workmanship
- Perform and document Preparatory, Initial, and Final Inspections for definable features of work
- Manage the submittal review and approval process
- Coordinate and document materials testing and inspection activities
- Support sustainability and compliance initiatives (including LEED, when applicable)
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a quality resource for the Project Manager, Superintendent, Project Engineer, and field staff
- Understand and communicate quality requirements for each definable feature of work
- Review submittals for compliance with drawings, specifications, and approved changes
- Produce daily and periodic QC reports documenting conformance and identifying non-conformances
- Verify all materials received comply with approved submittals and are properly stored and handled
- Coordinate and document required code inspections and independent testing
- Identify, document, correct, and re-inspect non-conforming work prior to concealment
- Conduct daily field inspections and provide written follow-up reports as needed
- Coordinate testing and commissioning of building systems
- Prepare and track pre-punch lists, punch lists, and closeout documentation
- Document final inspections, certificates of occupancy, and acceptance of work
- Maintain and update project as-built drawings in coordination with the Project Engineer
- Stop work when necessary to address quality, safety, or compliance concerns
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate with site leadership
Required Qualifications
One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management plus 2+ years of experience on similar federal construction projects
OR - 5+ years of experience serving as a Contractor Quality Control Manager (QCM) on US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects
Additional Requirements:
- Strong understanding of federal construction quality standards and CQC systems
- Experience performing Preparatory, Initial, and Final Inspections
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills
- Ability to enforce quality standards while maintaining collaborative working relationships
- Willingness and ability to travel nationwide for project assignments
