Cost Accounting Controller
Indianapolis, IN

As an Accounting Controller, you will support the product line manager and product managers in the planning, management, and control of commercial issues. Your role will focus on providing financial leadership and oversight across multiple areas, including financial controlling, cost analysis, business planning, and compliance. You will serve as a finance business partner for your product area, identifying economic opportunities and risks, formulating recommendations for action, and supporting strategic decisions.
This position is ideal for candidates with a background in manufacturing and a strong controller-focused skill set. We are looking for individuals with 3 to 5 years of experience, including recent graduates with relevant exposure.

Responsibilities:

Product Cost Controlling and Cost Accounting

  • Perform detailed product calculations and manage product cost controlling processes.
  • Analyze product profitability and provide insights to support pricing and product strategy.
  • Calculate cost rates for labor, overhead, and machine time to support accurate planning and reporting.
  • Manage cost center accounting, including allocation of overhead and monitoring of cost center budgets.
  • Implement and manage cost accounting systems to accurately track material, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Analyze cost variances and provide cost data to support decision-making.

Cost Accounting and Inventory Management

  • Develop cost accounting processes to track materials, labor, and overhead costs as the manufacturing operation expands.
  • Implement landed cost tracking for imported raw materials locally and overseas, including duties, freight, and currency exchange impacts.
  • Work with inventory management systems to track raw material and finished goods costs.
  • Analyze production costs to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve pricing strategies.

Performance Controlling

  • Create and present meaningful (ad hoc and monthly) financial reports to support product management and business control.
  • Track and analyze financial KPIs to ensure alignment with strategic goals.

Expense Management and Cost Analysis:

  • Analyze cost structures and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Monitor and control expenses, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess financial performance.

Financial Planning:

  • Partner with senior management to develop financial strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Support decision-making through financial forecasting and scenario planning.

Financial Planning:

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies that align with organizational goals.
  • Provide recommendations for improving financial performance and operational efficiencies.
  • Support decision-making processes through detailed financial analysis and scenario planning.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Participate in projects aimed at streamlining and automating accounts payable processes

Consulting Commercial Topics

  • Act as a finance business partner to product managers by identifying opportunities for optimization and assessing economic risks.
  • Provide actionable financial insights to guide business decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics with a focus on accounting/controlling or have comparable qualifications with 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in cost accounting and inventory tracking, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience in small-to-mid-sized companies with the ability to handle both day-to-day accounting and financial planning.
  • Knowledge of import costing, currency exchange considerations, and landed cost tracking (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills; experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus
